This is why we rescue...

 Blind_Doggie

 Dear Volunteer Family at C.A.R.E.,

I wanted to write a quick note to express how much I appreciate your mission as an organization. I spoke with an aquaintance recently, who happens to be a member of your volunteer foster care staff, and as she explained the goal and purpose of C.A.R.E, I was excited and inspired by the dedication and caring mentality exhibited by your group. When I got home I looked up your website, and was truly delighted as I went through your list of successful adoptions -- beautiful pets that have been given a second chance and that are thriving.
I myself am the proud owner of a foster pet - he is a rescue, and for that reason I am pleased and grateful to see an entire network of people dedicated to the true welfare of so many animals that would otherwise be friendless.  My dog, a healthy male Pekingese, would not have made it had someone not been there to see his potential. When I met him he was completely blind, already missing one eye, and with the other so damaged that there was no hope of recovery. I fell IN LOVE with him -- I'll admit that it was difficult at first to see past the way he looked (due to poor nutrition and the injured eye), but his personality captivated me. When I brought him home (he was originally from Texas), I had his injured eye removed, and had him fixed - and now he is a healthy, active, amazing little dog. I have attached a photo of him, hoping that it will be one more reason for all of you to continue to love what you do. I am so encouraged by your mission, and I am hopeful that in the future I can join you as a foster volunteer. Again, thank you so very much, and may your organization be blessed as you continue providing second chances!

 Lola - The Barky Husky

Lola (formally known as Lyla) is a spunky young husky aussie mix that came into our rescue in February of 2016. Let's just say her and her foster mom did not start off on the best foot. Lola had come from a neighborhood where she had to bark to keep strangers away and her soon to be foster mom was most definitely a stranger. Her foster mom did all the right things including not making eye contact and not letting a few mean sounding barks from this cute little pup scare her off. With those big blue eyes and perked up ears Lola went to a C.A.R.E. board member's house to get cleaned up and evaluated. It was discovered that outside of her neighborhood her bark was not as big and scary as it had once seemed.

Lola was taken to her new foster home which immediately gave her 4 doggie siblings! Lola seemed to like her new playmates and took cue from them on how to behave in a loving household with a human mom and dad. Lola and her foster mom warmed up to each other rather quickly. No longer would Lola bark when her mom looked into her big blue eyes. Instead she would put her paw on her moms hand for a chest scratch whenever she could!

It took quite a few home trials for Lola to find her perfect fit. She was a special pup who needed a rough and tough doggie playmate and parents who would understand that her barking at strangers was just a habit that had improved quite a bit from the beginning. In July 2016 Lola found just that home. With a big playful 1 year old doberman sibling, a fenced in yard and two awesome active parents Lola can now call her forever home good ol' Louisville, KY. She is a case where first impressions could of scared off a potential adopter but through the C.A.R.E. foster home network and the ability to do trials with potential adopters C.A.R.E. was able to give this pup a new and much better life for years to come.

  Clyde

Clyde came to care after he was found tied out front of an appartment complex, with no owner! He is now happily in a good home, with a very loving family!

The Story of Brandy now named Miss Mojetta

mojetta

"Miss Mojetta" is doing great! She just had her 6 month check up and
all is perfect. When she first came home the other dogs were not
too thrilled. But Jetta has taken a few nips, rolled over and wiggled,
she has even gone as far as to clean their teeth for them. It all paid
off, they now love her and respect her.

She is so smart. At 10 weeks old she was almost all the way potty
trained. By 10 1/2 weeks she was sitting and down on command.
Everyone was amazed. She is my baby and daddy's biggest fan.
He's just so great to her because he plays rough!

Since day one we have introduced her to water. Last week we
finally put a doggie life vest on her and took her back to a lake.
Our old German Shorthair took the lead and she, without hesitation,
followed right in. A swimmer she is!! The life vest was a great idea.
I would advise anyone teaching their pup to swim to get one. By
the way, Jetta adores our old guy "Gordon". It will be hard on all of us
soon. We have decided we need to put him down. Jetta will miss him
most I think, to her he is a lot of fun.

Thanks again for picking us! The 10 hour round trip was worth every lick!!!!!

Fondly,
Michel Richards and Family

The Story of Kia now named Tasha

Here are Kia/Tasha's before and after pictures. You can see how much she

has grown and how beautiful she looks now that she has a loving and caring

home. Here is a little note from her new family concerning how she is now:

Here are two pics of Tasha. One the day we got her and the other one just a few

The Story of Murphy now named Teesha

Teesha(Murphy) is a huge teddy bear. She is doing so well and loves

EVERYONE she weighs 55 lbs and has thick fur and big feet. Her tongue

never stops looking for a human to kiss and when no people in reach a

kitty gets it. She has a neat way of barking and one bark always means

daddy is home or teenager home. So little Andre' age 3 and Dmitri age 5

will run and say dads home! As I was typing she just went over to Andre'

and kissed his arm. She is so sweet. 80% sweet and 20% nice. She just

wags her tail if someone new comes over and kisses them. SO she is the

love angel in doggy form.

She is still training and though slower on learning hand commands she is

getting them. She makes up for slow learning with all that love! She loves

to play outdoors with boys and loves to go in woods with daddy and them

on Saturdays to build on a fort. She loves her toys and brings them to

everyone until one gives in to play . Daddy says he has always wanted a

dog like this his entire life that will play so much. She tackles him with love

when he gets home. He always says bye to her when he leaves for work

along with kids.

She will be getting registered as a service dog soon. But needs to learn one

more command. STAY but her happiness gets so overwhelming she sneaks

forward. She puts Dmitri to bed and stays until he is sleeping. She also knows

when he needs her the most and will go put both paws on him and look up at

him with her wonderful cute face. he calms downs and has to love on her. We

call this command PAw Paw and she knows to go hold him but she has done

it now a few times without being told too, we also can tell her the command and

she will do it to the person she is talking with.

Teesha gets bathed in special shampoo every Friday and she can hold 5 gal

of water after she is toweled off! RUN! everyone hides and blankets go on the

couches as that is her perferred way to dry off, rub all over the couch. I call her

my Bear and tease that you gave us a bear cub and not a dog. Dmitri said she

is not a bear because she has a long tail and barks!

The Story of Shaun now named Charlie

Charley is doing great! He has a booster shot at the vet on Wednesday, and we
are excited to see how much he weighs. He is growing so fast!!! When we took
him to the vet the week after we got him, I think he was 16 lbs. He and Abby are
such buds! We had Spring Break last week...that was fun! He and Abby had more
time than usual to spend together since we were home all day! It's been a while
since he has had a "potty accident" in the house...I hope that's a trend that
continues!! :) We have signed up for a Dog Obedience Class through the Seymour
Parks and Rec. It starts tomorrow. I am real excited to talk and work with others
and their dogs...and learn effective training strategies (as well as ineffective ones). I
will tell you though...the advice you gave us about how to greet him when we walk in
the door works! He does the excited thing, but we wait to pet him until he sits. He
seems to be so smart. He picked up on it right away! Abby's has evened learned to
wait....which for a 3 year old is so hard!!! :) Well, I just wanted to send you more
pictures and tell you that we are doing great!

The Story of Gezalle now named Ellie

We changed her name to "Ellie" which she responds to quite well. She's still doing

pretty good with the crate training and potty training. She loves our big house...our

next purchase will be a gate! She's growing quite a bit too. When you saw her last she

was 15 pounds and she's just over 20 now.

We saw the vet and updated all of her shots. Our vet is really nice and very patient

in taking time to explain to us as new "parents." My side of the family has all met and

fell in love with her. Brad's family is coming this week to meet her. He has 3 younger

brothers who I'm sure will have fun with her. We are still staying strong with no table

food and not being on the furniture. (Although it's quite tempting).

She is just as sweet as she can be and really coming into her own. She's gaining

confidence and personality every day. She makes us laugh and we can hardly

remember life before she came!

Thanks so much!!!

Lesley
