Meet Duke! Our best guess is that Duke is a shepherd/hound/rottie mix. He is a big boy around 70 pounds and is almost 1.5 years old. Duke is a heartworm positive dog – but don’t worry – it was timely diagnosed, and he is on a great road to full recovery.  And Duke’s heartworm treatment is fully covered by CARE! All he needs from an approved adopter is a loving home when he can relax, recover and then get on to living his best life in his forever home! Duke is a total lovie and deserves someone who wants a loyal, smart and appreciative dog by their side.

Duke is completely crate trained and quietly lounges in his crate when it’s time.  He is also very treat motivated making training a breeze! Duke’s big soulful eyes say “love me!” to everyone around him.  Duke takes treats/food gently from his foster humans, walks well on a leash and is doing great with all people he meets and other dogs. He will likely be best in a home without young children.

At this time, only a local adoption (in the Columbus, Indiana area) can be approved. Any approved adopter must agree to bring Duke to CARE’s veterinarian in Columbus, Indiana for the duration of his treatment – the cost of this treatment will be paid by CARE.  Once the heartworm treatment is complete, an adopting family must agree to return Duke to be neutered at CARE’s vet as well.  Heartworms are very treatable and Duke is expected to make a full recovery. 

CARE's adoption fee is $250.  Duke will arrive in his forever home up to date on his age appropriate vaccinations and CARE will cover the cost of him being neutered and microchipped following his heartworm treatment (at CARE's vet).
