March 2012 UPDATES

SPAY/NEUTER NUMBERS:

323 SPAYS AND NEUTERS FIRST QUARTER OF 2012. Our goal is 1000 for the year!  We are doing two spay/neuter clinics a month-  this allows us to send up to 90 animals a month for surgery.  In March we added a 3rd clinic and were able to send 167 total animals in March!

THANK YOU Linda Robertson, Colleen Herrick, Nicohl Birdwell-Goodin , Travis Anderson and Ashley Evans for all your help with the clinics.  A SPECIAL THANKS TO COLUMBUS ANIMAL CONTROL FOR ALL THEIR HELP WITH THESE CLINICS- WE COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT THE USE OF THEIR BUILDING, CRATES AND EXTRA MANPOWER!

CARE was approached by the towns of Elizabethtown and Hope to help alleviate the cat over population problems in each town.   A TNR (trap-neuter-release) program was started in both towns.  The last E-town clinic  8 cats were pregnant – an average of 32 kittens  would have been added to the problem.

Anyone wanting to help with spay/neuter please contact me at elaine47246@yahoo.com

SPAY-ghetti UPDATE:

Our final total for the February SPAY-ghetti fundraiser was $8,721.38.  This was a 15% increase over last year (and last year was a 157% increase over the year before!!)   We could not have done this event without the help of our sponsors, our volunteers and Bill at Tre Bicchieri!  All proceeds from this event go directly to help fund our spay/neuter program.

***Funds raised from this event will help us treat all our CARE animals for whatever medical issues they may have.  We have had 3 Heartworm positive dogs since January, pulled and cleaned teeth, treated skin conditions, etc.  When an animal is adopted from CARE we know it is spayed or neutered, up to date with shots, dewormed, dogs are started on heartguard, cats are tested for feline leukemia and feline aids, all animals are on flea medication and any other medical conditions (as mentioned above) have been attended to.  This event will help us to continue to treat our animals for all they need yet not raise our adoption fees too high!

NIGHT BIKE RIDE- Saturday, Aug 11th

This is a first event for CARE and we are very excited about it!  Not only is it a local bike ride BUT it is at NIGHT (all participants will get a custom designed glow in the dark t-shirt).  Details are still in the works but the ride will be 15-20 miles long with architectural landmarks lit up at night along the route.

We are looking for sponsors for the ride- if you own a business or want to sponsor on your own please contact me- we hope to make this another healthy event for people to participate in and have a lot of fun while doing it!

VOLUNTEERS are needed to work at the Registration table, work along the designated route and help set up the route.  Please let Ashley know if this is an event you would like to help with!

OTHER-

Finally- one of our own, Ashley Evans, was asked by our Mayor to join the Animal Control Commission.  This group advises the Mayor on what is happening at the Columbus Animal Shelter, updates rules and regulations concerning animals, etc.   Mayor Brown is an advocate for the animals and she would like to help the shelter not only improve its image but continue to increase their adoption numbers.  Way to go ASHLEY!

 Thanks for CAREing!!
