NEEDED- CAT LOVERS! - CARE is in need of cat cleaners for our cats at the Columbusl Petco store. Open days are Wednesday evening and Thursday mornings. Petco is main outlet for cat adoptions. Two volunteers a day go in to clean and play with the cats- it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour (depending on number and age of the cats). Please fill out an online VOLUNTEER APPLICATION if you are interested in helping with the cats at Petco.
CAT and DOG FOSTER HOMES NEEDED- CARE has no building- all our animals are in foster homes, or at Petco (cats only). We are in GREAT need of more foster homes for both cats and dogs. Our animals come from the Columbus Animal Shelter (to help reduce the euthanasia rates), owners who have lost their homes or must give up their animals for personal or health reasons, and strays. We put them into a foster home and CARE pays for all medical expenses so they are healthy and ready to be adopted. Foster homes get to know the animals, work on socialization (walks around the neighborhood, trips to Rural King and Petco, etc), housetraining and basic obedience. We provide crates, leashes, and food (if requested). Please fill out an ONLINE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION if you are interested in helping CARE help, not only the animals, but the people who need us. The length of stay for the animals vary- if you are going on vacation we provide a temporary foster home or will pay to have the animal boarded in a kennel ( Small dogs tend to get adopted quickly as do many pure breeds. BUT there are times when adoptions are slow.......)

Throughout the year, CARE often comes upon special cases. These are situations where an animal has had a particularly tough life, and is in need of special care. These are also cases where we often need a little extra help to make life a little better for these poor dogs and cats. Please check out their stories.

C.A.R.E signed up over 85 male cats in February thanks to a special promotion by the Pets Alive Nonprofit Spay/Neuter & Vaccination Clinic and $2000 in funding from The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS.)

**through grants, donations and fundraisers we are able to assist people who cannot afford the above spay/neuter prices- just ask us!
Drop off time is 7:30- 8:am. No food after midnight the night before. All animals must travel in an approved travel crate (not wire). If you do not have a crate one can be provided for you for a $5 fee.
Animals will travel to Bloomington for surgery and will be returned around 12:30pmthe next day.
The first edition of Adventures of Max and Lou is now available!
Local author and CARE volunteer Kelsey Vanarsdall has written a book about her two dogs, one of which is a CARE rescue. She has also included other CARE rescue animals in the book. The illustrations were done by local artist/dog trainer/CARE volunteer Nick Woolls, and donations (after printing costs) will go to CARE.
This is a great gift and another fun way to support CARE and animal rescue. Please let any friends and relatives in education know about this great book!
